Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I reserve my Maine Coon Kitten?                                                                                                                                                     Once a family has been approved a $300 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a kitten a spot on the waiting list for a future litter. This can be in the form of a check or thru PayPal. Our Paypal address is: mckittens53@gmail.com. Please add 3% to the amount for Paypal. (Example $300 deposit plus $9 paypal fee equals $309) Deposits will not be refunded in the event you change your mind.

  2.  When I am on a waiting list how do I choose my kitten?                                                                                                                     The litter of kittens is offered to families in the order the deposits were received. This is usually done @ 6 weeks of age. Occasionally our cattery will hold the option on kitten that would meet our show/breed standards. This kitten would not be available.

  3. What is the cost of a MyLuckyStars Maine Coon kitten?                                                                                                                       The adoption fee varies for each kitten. The cost is partially dependent on who the parents are and the quality of the kitten. We are responsible breeders and when determining the cost of a kitten we must also figure in the cost to acquire the breeding parents with breeding rights that come with a great pedigree, outstanding health history and well vetted, this can be very expensive. The other things to consider in the cost of a kitten are regular vet checks, blood test of female prior to breeding, dna testsing and echocardiograms on the heart to determine parents to not have HCM. Housing, food, toys, cat trees, litter, shampoo, grooming equipment, show registrations fees and all expenses associated with showing to ensure breed confirmation are all costs are associated with determining the cost of kittens.                                                                                                                                         Each kitten will be sold with a Purchase Contract/Agreement. This contract will be forwarded via email at your request prior to placing a deposit. Upon picking up your kitten we will formally sign the contract.  From time to time, we will retire our breeding cats, if they are not to stay with us, they will be offered at a reduced fee.

  4. When can I pick up my kitten?                                                                                                                                                               Kittens are available to be picked up between 12 and 16 weeks. The remaining balance is due IN CASH on the day of pick up. When your kitten leaves, we will be giving you their medical record that gives dates of visits, worming and shots. The registration papers for your kitten will be mailed to you after we have received proof of spay/neuter from the responsible licensed veterinarian. The parents' pedigrees distinguishing their lineage will be given to you upon picking up your kitten. Please arrive with a carrier to safely transport your kitten home.

  5. I want my kitten to have one litter before desexing them.....                                                                                                                 NO, your contract will state this kitten is not sold with breeding rights and proof of spay/neuter is to be forwarded to us no later than 9 months of age. If you fail to desex the kitten/cat and it is bred under any circumstances, you agree to pay damages to Breeder-Rick and or Cindi Buettner in the amount of $5000 for breach of contract plus any legal fees associated in the collection of the damages and agree to return said animal to MyLuckyStars Cattery at your expense.

  6. Do you offer a health guarantee?                                                                                                                                                           We offer a limited health guarantee as part of the sales contract and in order for the guarantee to remain intact the kitten must be examined by your vet within 72 hours of leaving our home. Our cats are tested for FELV and FIV and all kittens leaving our home will be negative. We ask they not be given the vaccination for those diseases as from that point forward the cat will always test positive for it. All our breeding cats are DNA tested for HCM, SMA, and PKDEF thru Optimal Selection. They receive their heart echos from the cardiologist at Kansas State University to ensure they do not have HCM, therefore reducing the possibility a kitten develop it.

  7.  How big will my kitten get?                                                                                                                                                                  Although no one can predict what the size a kitten will become as an adult, it is well documented that the weight range for males is normally between 15 and 22 pounds and the female 8-15 pounds. Maine Coons are a slow developing breed and will not reach their full potential until between 4 and 5 years of age. Generally speaking, a small Maine Coon is normally bigger than the average house cat!

  8. How should I introduce my new kitten to our home?                                                                                                                            The ride home, new faces and a new home can be very overwhelming for your new kitten. It will adjust much better if allowed to do so slowly. We suggest putting the kitten in a small quiet room or bathroom with it's bed, food, water and litter box. Let him stay in there for a few days until he has adjusted to that room and the new faces coming and going. Over the next few days bring him out into the living areas for an hour at a time , but remember he is a kitten (a baby) and there is alot of change going on for him. As he begins to free roam, remember that he will need a litter box close to wherever he is allowed to roam.

  9. What if I need help?                                                                                                                                                                               We are always available as a resource with any questions you might have. If we don't know the answer we may know someone who does. If you have questions please feel free to drop us an email or a call. And Please! We LOVE updated pictures of your baby!
