​How do I reserve my Maine Coon kitten?

Once your family is approved, a $300 non‑refundable deposit is required to reserve a kitten or secure a spot on our waiting list for a future litter.

How do I choose my kitten once I’m on the waiting list?

Kittens are offered to families in the order deposits were received. Selections typically begin around 6 weeks of age.

Occasionally, we may retain a kitten that meets our show/breed standards. If so, that kitten will not be available for selection.

What is the cost of a MyLuckyStars Maine Coon kitten?

Adoption fees vary depending on the kitten’s parentage, quality, and overall evaluation.

Our pricing reflects the significant investment required to responsibly breed healthy, well‑socialized Maine Coons, including:

Acquisition of breeding cats with breeding rights, strong pedigrees, and excellent health histories

Routine veterinary care

Pre‑breeding bloodwork

DNA testing

Echocardiograms to screen for HCM

Housing, food, litter, toys, cat trees

Grooming supplies

Show registration fees and travel to ensure breed confirmation

Each kitten is sold with a Purchase Contract/Agreement. You may request a copy via email before placing a deposit. Contracts are formally signed at pickup.

We occasionally retire breeding cats; if they do not remain with us, they are offered at a reduced fee.

When can I pick up my kitten?

Kittens go home between 12 and 16 weeks of age.

The remaining balance is due IN CASH on pickup day.

You will receive:

Your kitten’s medical record (vaccinations, worming, vet visits)

Parent pedigrees at pickup

Registration papers mailed after proof of spay/neuter is received from your licensed veterinarian

Please bring a secure carrier for safe transport.

Can my kitten have one litter before being spayed/neutered?

No. All kittens are sold without breeding rights. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided no later than 9 months of age.

If the kitten is bred under any circumstances, you agree to:

Pay $5,000 in damages to Rick and/or Cindi Buettner

Cover any legal fees associated with collection

Return the cat to MyLuckyStars Cattery at your expense

This is clearly stated in the contract.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes — we provide a limited health guarantee as part of the sales contract.

To keep the guarantee valid, your kitten must be examined by your veterinarian within 72 hours of leaving our home.

Our cats are tested for FELV and FIV, and all kittens leave our home negative. We ask that you do not vaccinate for FELV/FIV afterward, as vaccinated cats will always test positive.

All breeding cats are DNA tested for HCM, SMA, and PKDEF through Optimal Selection. They receive heart echocardiograms from the cardiology team at Kansas State University to reduce the risk of HCM in offspring.

How big will my kitten get?

While no one can predict exact adult size, typical Maine Coon weights are:

Males: 15–22 lbs

Females: 8–15 lbs

Maine Coons are a slow‑developing breed and reach full maturity between 4 and 5 years of age. Even a “small” Maine Coon is usually larger than the average house cat.

How should I introduce my new kitten to our home?

New environments can be overwhelming. A slow introduction helps your kitten adjust comfortably.

We recommend:

Start with a small, quiet room (bathroom or bedroom).

Provide bed, food, water, and litter box.

Allow a few days for adjustment.

Gradually introduce the kitten to the rest of the home for short periods.

Ensure a litter box is nearby wherever the kitten spends time.

Your kitten is still a baby — patience and consistency make all the difference.
